Women split, tie last year's conference win total


The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team hit the road last weekend, traveling to Atlanta, GA to face Emory University and then on to Rochester, NY to battle the University of Rochester Yellow Jackets. The Spartans were able to edge Emory 71-65 on Friday, Jan.

Modern music of the night: Cleveland Orchestra astounds with performances of Bartok, Hosokawa

Last weekend, guests in Severance Hall heard a little bit of night music, albeit the sort of night music that stands in complete opposition to Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. While Mozart's ubiquitous string quartet piece might accurately accompany an 18th century Viennese dinner scene, the night music of Béla Bartók is truly the music of the night, using traditional Western instruments to evoke the sounds of rustling trees, crickets, owls, and cicadas.
