Technology, online, the internet, and computers have done wonderful and marvelous developments in our world today. They make jobs and work easier – not to mention that they have delivered an efficient way to run a business. But such system is also prone to attacks, virus, and malware. It is only crucial that companies start taking notice of the cyber security importance and how to minimize risks as low as possible.
The Attack on Wendy’s
The attack happens to one of the most popular food chains in the U.S, the Wendy’s, where there is a huge and massive cyber threat has been going on. It is confirmed that such attack happened but the shocking fact is that the scale of the threat itself is bigger than expected. It is reported that around 1,025 of the chain restaurants are affected – to be at least – and the damages happening to the lost data. A lot of the credit card and debit card important information have been stolen.
The company claimed that most of the affected restaurants are located in America only but refused to state the exact numbers of people affected by the attack. It seems that the malware had been prepared and then installed in some of the affected spots, on the company’s point of sale system. They are sure and confident that the malware has been cleaned and removed and they are now offering assistance to their affected customers.
The Suspicious Activity
Wendy’s official claimed that it is possible that the malware had been active since autumn 2015 but suspicion just flared up around February 2016. The company decided in May that they were going public with their discovery and they believed that ‘only’ 300 restaurants were affected. It was shocking to find out that the attack happened to more than 1000 restaurant, making this one of the risky and significant cyber attack in American’s history.
